Outside The Gym – Indoor Rock Climbing

Last Weekends was just great.  I hope everybody was outside to enjoy that little sunshine Vancouver got after the weeks and weeks of rain.

Here’s my lesson from the weekend – Be Open.

Remember how I wrote “Hot Yoga Never Again”. Well.. Never say never. After a very intense educational ketlebell swinging and deadlifting session on Thursday, Friday was hard to move… therefore with a little resistance, but with an open mindset I accepted Aly’s invitation to join her at the Hot Yoga session at the YYoga on Burrard and Smithe.

Oh, was I glad I did it. I cannot tell what was different, but the experience was great. Heat wasn’t annoying, postures were “pain comfortable”, instructor created a very relaxed and familiar atmosphere, and the was music right on spot. All in all, cannot wait to get to do it again. Well, okay lets not exaggerate here, I’m not becoming the biggest fan of yoga, but it certainly has its place in an overall fitness regime.

Saturday was even better! After a energy boosting 2 small group training sessions, and training in the sun on the Kits beach, Prevail Fitness had its first get out from the gym adventure. This time we hit the Cliffhanger club for a few hours of indoor rock climbing. That’s the spot I cannot wait to get my butt back into. Four of us took a belay session and gave hard time our belay guy by cheering and giving directions to each other.

It’s a great challenge for the body. It is also a great challenge to your brains to figure out where to place your foot, and where are you going to reach next with your hand. There’s variety of levels and you are free to choose your happy zone. We are back there in two weeks, please let me know if you are interested and I’ll keep you posted on the details.

A few tips to remember:

  • Wear comfortable clothing;
  • The fear of height is gone after the first time you touch the top of the wall;
  • And, ladies: nails do not help the climbing experience!
